Pills form where the fabric rubs: under the arms, on the sides, where a bag rests on the shoulder. This is normal for any knitwear with short fibers.
When it’s not normal
If pills appeared after the first wash all over the surface, most likely there’s a lot of low-quality synthetics in the composition. It’s best to return such items.
How to remove
A fabric shaver is inexpensive and works better than a razor: it doesn’t leave snags. Go over dry fabric with the item laid out on a flat surface.
Prevention is simple: wash inside out, in a bag, without aggressive spin.
